Yuli Gurriel, the Houston Astros’ first baseman, received a five games suspension for making a racist gesture in the dugout during Game 3 of the World Series. The suspension without pay won’t be served until the start of next season, meaning that Gurriel can play in the remaining games of the World Series.
Many believe that Gurriel got off lightly and feel that he should have lost the privilege to continue playing in the World Series. Gurriel’s racist act was caught on camera where he is ridiculing Yu Darvish on live television by using his hand to slant his eyes, and also mouthing the word “chinto”, which is a Spanish word to derogatorily describe people of Asian descent.
