It was supposed to be Usain Bolt’s night in a fairytale swansong farewell in his last individual race at the World Championships, however Justin Gatlin won the 100m sprint in London with a time of 9.92.
Within minutes of his victory, Gatlin’s Wikipedia page was updated with the introductory sentence reading ‘Justin Gatlin is a drug cheat and should have been banned for life’. The Wikipedia page got updated soon afterwards to remove this, but not before the following screenshot was taken:
Gatlin has served two doping suspensions during his career. Many believe that Gatlin should have been banned for life after his second infringement, including Sebastian Coe, the head of track’s governing body, the IAAF.
